Tuesday, 25 January 2011 10:22

jan11-droid_connectEarlier this month we unveiled SPOT Connect at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Can’t go anywhere without your smartphone even when you venture off the grid? SPOT Connect turns your smartphone into a satellite communicator. You can keep in touch with friends, family and emergency personnel.

Download the SPOT app and link up your smartphone with SPOT Connect via Bluetooth. SPOT Connect links your smartphone to communication satellites. Stay connected with your social network; send short email messages, text messages with GPS coordinates and in a dire emergency, transmit an SOS message for international emergency response.

Check out all the new features on SPOT Connect:

  • Send location-based messages via satellite to others delivered as SMS text or email
  • Send custom “Type and Send” 41 character text messages from your location
  • Update social networks including Facebook, Twitter and SPOT Adventures from remote locations
  • Provide GPS functionality to non-GPS devices
  • Utilize proven SPOT messaging features - Send custom or predefined messages, Track Progress on Google Maps™, or transmit an SOS message in an emergency
  • Store up to 10 predefined messages for quick reference and sending
  • Create and save contact groups to receive your SPOT Connect message. Each contact group can contain multiple contacts consisting of cell phone numbers and or email addresses
  • On device SOS button for standalone emergency operation
  • Web & Mobile account management
  • Bluetooth wireless connection
  • Waterproof
  • Lightweight

The SPOT Connect app can be downloaded anytime and works when SPOT Connect is registered with SPOT Basic Service and paired with the smart device. SPOT Connect is compatible with some of today’s leading smartphone operating systems such as Android.

Hello,
I'm sure this question's been asked but I could not find it.
I recently
bought the Delorme PN-60w with the Spot Unit.
My question is: Can the Spot unit
that came with the Delorme GPS work with the iPhone app?

Thanks,
MLC
Johnni   |2011-07-30 09:22:48
Thank you Spot connect

can i get spot to work with my blackberry curve
Spot LLC   |2011-02-05 05:50:26
Hi everyone, SPOT Connect is scheduled to release this spring. It's still not
available. We just wanted to update everyone as we know you are all very
excited. We will be posting questions and answers the next couple of days in our
FAQs section (found under help in the top navigation of the site). thanks for
all of your interest and patience.
Arthur Gulig   |2011-02-05 01:01:24
Where can I find the Spott Connect app?

Is is available for either a Samsung
Rogue or Samsung Gravity T?

Thanks.
JPA   |2011-02-03 10:01:22
Spot Connect is nonsense. There is discussion about a smartphone app but no
link. You can exhaustively search with google but will find no SPOT Connect app
anywhere. Many have asked about it in the comments section but there are NO
answers (as in zero, zilch, nada, etc.) anywhere. I think that the SPOT Connect
app is vaporware.
Stephen   |2011-01-31 16:01:07
So it says SPOT Connect is supposed to "release end of January". Well,
where is it? I keep checking the App Store to see if it's there yet.

We use
four SPOTs with Delorme GPS for our non-profit drilling organization called
Water Harvest International in South Sudan. SPOT has been a valuable tool for
our crews to report in to the base as well as to donors while out in the field.
eddy   |2011-01-26 05:33:30
I am curious about the Spot COnnect. I want to know more on how this will allow
me to use my Sprint EVO in the field. I spend weeks outdoors, sometimes weeks
at a time and have little chance to update people on my status other than the
predefined text messages.
Gary   |2011-01-26 04:55:23
Can you send an SOS message directly from the SPOT Connect device, or does your
phone have to be turned on?
James   |2011-01-26 02:36:01
Soooooooooooo...................Where is the list of phones that the app is
compatible with? I followed the link for more info and found no info on the app
or a link to download it.
Steven Allen   |2011-01-26 01:57:59
Will a smartphone work with my existing Delorme spot device?
Gary FitzHugh   |2011-01-26 01:10:31
My family has two Spot 1 devices. Can Spot Connect be added to those services?
Andrew Moore   |2011-01-26 00:41:53
can you upgrade your old spot to
the newer model
Gerry   |2011-01-26 00:37:59
does this mean that all of us who bought DeLorme GPS units for this could have
saved our money?
M. Thyer   |2011-01-26 00:33:47
I'm really excited about this new device, it has the potential to cut my pack
weight significantly by allowing me to run this functionality on my iPhone 4.0.
That said, it appears that for the time being its only usable with Andriod.
When do you expect that SPOT will have an app ready for iPhone?
DG   |2011-01-26 00:17:24
How do I buy Spot Connect and what does it costto buy & yearly service?
Ed   |2011-01-25 23:58:56
When will it be availiable for the iPhone?
Eduardo Funes   |2011-01-25 22:48:22
Where do I get the smart device? Is it the same as the old SPOT orange device?
Howard Poarch   |2011-01-25 22:13:18
Will SPOT connect work with my ipone-4?
jeff clark   |2011-01-25 21:38:40

service is available?
JOANNE BOYD   |2011-01-25 21:31:49
Tell me how to add this to my iphone
noga grosman   |2011-01-25 21:25:31
Cool! Awesome upgrade. You kept us in mind when developing Spot app as we are a
true user of Spot messenger out at the element. Thank you guys! from all of us
at Eco Planet Adventures.
Bo Willyard   |2011-01-25 21:24:58
great and having the SOS button on the device is genius, now if I had a power
cradle that charged it when it is on my motorcycle, then it would be perfect.
Tony Gurule   |2011-01-25 21:23:54
want
Frank Stathos   |2011-01-25 21:11:25
When will this be up and running? (Smart phone app.)will it work with IPhone ?
Brian Jennings   |2011-01-25 21:10:58
Can you receive messages?
Brian   |2011-01-25 21:10:20
Have used Spott for years. New app. seems good except for the Smartphone. Spent
three in the mountains this past Nov. in Alberta. Temps. real low. Smarthone
battery life has been poor from the start. Not real interested unless something
is done with battery life. I carry extra batteries for Spott.
Marc   |2011-01-25 21:08:17
How much does the spot connect cost?
I already have a spot unit.
Travis   |2011-01-25 19:19:24
What? No iphone?
James Venimore   |2011-01-25 17:44:42
Will there be an iPhone app?
John Ferguson   |2011-01-25 17:30:25
It's not clear if it still has the harware buttons for "OK", 'Help",
"SOS". I'd be reluctant to have to rely on two devices and their
batteries in order to send for help in an emergency. Being able to send messages
is a great conveinence but if I really need help I need to be able to hit one
button to get help and not have to go through the process of unlocking my phone,
starting up the correct app and hitting the correct button.

Otherwise it
looks like a great device. Once you have the app available for Windows Phone 7
I'll take a closer look at it.
Ethan Wainscott   |2011-01-25 14:35:55
Looks great, when will this be available? this is just what I have been looking
for. I like the one I have now but the wife is always taking off with it. I in
the market for an anther one for my pack,
DIONISIS   |2011-01-25 13:48:54
VERY USEFUL

jason   |2011-01-25 13:29:59
Can this new 'puck' also work stand alone? I LOVE the ability to connect to my
phone and send custom messages. My phone is less power efficient, and way less
rugged or waterproof than a SPOT. If I need my phone to send an SOS or OK, then
this system has a weak link. The SPOT Connect puck needs to function as a normal
spot in the event my smartphone has a dead battery or is otherwise out of the
game. Does this new SPOT do that? If so, sign me up!!! If not, I'll wait until
the next version (which hopefully does).
grace iovine   |2011-01-25 13:14:03
Does this work with Blackberries?
Gary Felker   |2011-01-25 13:11:31
Can I connect my android phone to my Spot Messenger? Thanks
Jerry Tsagaratos   |2011-01-25 13:03:42
When will it be available on amazon?
William E Auld   |2011-01-25 12:57:28
Have just purchased a PN 60w and am having problems loading maps & charts from
NOAA, maybe I should have waited for this new development, a cell phone with
these apps could have been a better choice.
Rod Moyer   |2011-01-25 12:57:26
I'm already a SPOT service subscriber, but the new SPOT Connect will finally get
me to upgrade from my original model. WOW! I followed the "Find a
Retailer" link from the main product page, but none of the retailers I
checked had this yet. If you could let me know when it is more widely
available, I'd appreciate it.

By the way, I'm an Android user.
Amir Farsio   |2011-01-25 12:53:42
Where do I down load the Spot app for Iphone 4?
Alan Prater   |2011-01-25 12:45:00

Amir Farsio   |2011-01-25 12:44:05
When is the app. available for IPhone 4?
I have the spot and can't wait to use
it.
Gary Pfahler   |2011-01-25 12:27:44

to determine this on the web site.

pay additional annual fees? How much?
Thanks,
