My Adventure Story

Day 7 - June 28 ...

OK, after a short commercial break, departed the luxury confines of buddy Bob's place in Calgary and onto the rough and tumble camp grounds again.  This day should be the best yet, a venture into the Icefields Parkway (from Banff to Jasper).  Didn't disappoint.  Stopped in Banff, Lake Louise, the Glacier and finally into Jasper.  Weather was pretty damn cold, which made riding literally bone chilling, despite being wrapped up in layers upon layers of clothing.  Camped out on a site near the town of Jasper in the national park, and end up meeting two big BMW dudes, also heading to Alaska.  Was a great chat with the two from Pennsylvania.

Day 8 - June 29 ..

Wickedly cold night in Jasper.  Tearing down camp was not the most pleasant task with freezing cold hands.  On towards Hinton and out of the park.  Had to stop to warm myself up at Timmies.  Seems to be a bikers haven, as just as I was finishing and heading back onto the road, two big bikes pull up.  One was an elaborately painted goldwing with a matching trailer.  It turned out there was a young girl on the back of the goldwing, father and daughter!  From Winnipeg and doing some crazy distances, about 6,000km in a week!

Day was cold throughout and encountered the longest ride between fuel stops - at one point 185km.  Thank god for the extra large fuel tank.

Finally made the BC border and onto Dawson Creek, start of the Alaskan Highway.  The road to Gold ....
