My Adventure Story
This was a business/pleasure trip.
Tue, 1 Sep 09: Judy and I sailed from Solomons to Annapolis. We got away from the slip around 1130am. The weather was mostly sunny, cool (75 deg F), wind out of the north @ 8-12 knts, sea state was around 2-3 ft. Due to the wind on our nose , the chop, and the late start........ we dieseled the whole way (8.5 hrs). We secured a slip at the Town City Dock. Our slip was across the canal from Pusser's Bar and on the same side as the Harbor Master's Office, where the restrooms and showers are located. This is a city operated marina and is well run and if faily inexpensive; but first, come first served---no reservations. It is located in the middle of downtown old Annapolis.
Wed. 2 Sep 09: Bill attended a business meeting at the Naval Academy. Judy shoped (surprise, surprise). Dinner at Hell's Point--Good.
Thu. 3 Sep 09: Met the guys at Ruth and Chick's for breakfast. This is sort of a diner/deli combined. Located on Main St. close to the harbor. Neat place. The only resturant where that I have been to that makes everyone stand up at 830am and say the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Bill attended business meeting at Naval Academy. Judy shoped. Dinner at Middletown Tavern---not good service, food was cold.
Fri, 4 Sep 09: Vacation day. Got up late. Found some aluminum rivets at Fawcett's marine supply and fixed the strap on the Lifesling box that broke when the inflator accidently went off a few weeks ago. Also replaced the inflator with a re-arming kit that we bought earlier in the week and brought with us on this trip. Put grommets in the new yellow flag that Judy had purchased for us.
Sat. 5 Sep 09: Vacation day. Got up late, showered, went to Ruth and Chick's for lunch, looked at some gallerys, looked in a bunch of shops, bought a door mat for the condo. The door mat says "Hi, I'm Mat". Nap in the afternoon. Dinner at Maria's Sicilian Ristorante on Green St. at the end of the canal-Good.
Sun 6 Sep 09:
We sailed back to Solomons today. Left the slip at City Dock at 930am, stopped in the harbor and got diesel fuel and pumped out the holding tank. Got underway around 1000am. The first 4-5 hrs the weather was sunny, cool (75 deg F), wind out of the north @ 8-12 knts, sea state was around 1 ft. ......and we had a really nice sail. About half way down the Cheaspeake, the wind died, they we hit some thunderstorms with hard rains and the sea state incrased to about 2-3 ft. At this point we fired up the engine and motored on into Solomons. We arrived at our slip at around 830pm. The wind was blowing so hard from the starboard side of the boat, it took us about 4 tries to get into the slip without hitting the posts on the side of the slip.....but persistence prevailed and we got in cleanly.
