My Adventure Story
The Three Lakes Loop Road is a single lane road constructed to provide access to some logging sites on Mitkof Island in Southeast Alaska. The road starts and ends at Mitkof Highway. It passes through second growth and old growth Sitka Spruce and Hemlock forests as well as through some muskeg.
At one location a spur road leads to several viewpoints of Frederick Sound, the mountains of the mainland, and of LeConte Glacier. LeConte Glacier is the farthest South North American glacier flowing in to salt water.
Trails from the road lead to three lakes and from one of the lakes on to the shore of Frederick Sound at the Ideal Cove area.
