My Adventure Story
On September 5th, 2009 sixteen gas balloons launched from Geneva, Switzerland for the
53rd Coupe Aeronautique Gordon Bennett. Team USA 3 was one of 3 US teams piloted by Andy Cayton and Sam Canders.
Our flight path took us south through France, over the Mediterranean and into Spain after almost 68 hours aloft and over 900 miles flown to finish 4th Place. During this time we spent over 20 hours over open water, low altitudes at night avoiding windmills and high altitudes in attempt to avoid thunderstorms.
