Some friends went fishing north of FlinFlon Manitoba, I don't fish, roads look nice on a map, I do ride on roads.
Thursday morning 06:00 load bike and trailer into boat on trailer for a long ride. 12 hours later in Cranberry Portage MB unload bike and trailer and head south.
Cycled about 30 km to a campground in Grass River Provincial park camped right on the lake, nice.
Friday east by north east along Hwy 39 nice road no traffic no buildings no wildlife no road kill just me and the road. Ponton Hwy 39 meets Hwy 6 and I turn south. Road construction, the next 35 km are one lane, traffic flag man recommends camping at Wilson River about 40 km down the road ends up its about 90 km camped at dusk between the power line and the road. Not nice
Saturday still on Hwy 6, 85 km straight to Grand Rapids the road does not curve, 50 km of perfectly straight road. Stopped at Footprint Lake nice rocky beach right by the road. Lunch in Grand Rapids went down to the mouth of the Saskatchewan. Lake Winnipeg is huge. Head south to Hwy 60 figure i can find a camp spot along one of the lakes just west of the jct. Can see the lake but the can't get to it because of the marsh grass along the edge. Camped just off the road after a vain attempt to get to the lake. Not nice.
Sunday Hot windy and long, like being on a treadmill. Stopped at the Eastervill jct thought about going up there but the warnings about flu and the extra 50 km put me off. Not much to see along here glimpses of lake Winnipegosis and beer cans. Camped at a gravel pit / hydro station at the corner of 60 and 10. Not bad till the bugs came out, they were nasty.
Monday 70 km on brand spanking new pavement into The Pas, awesome.
Startled a flag man from his morning nap (not a lot of traffic) Met my ride home in the Pas 11 hour bus ride home
Great trip lets do it again.
