My Adventure Story
Great hike today. Very cold to start with so the long climb was welcome. Treking through the burn area that is now 15 years old is amazing, young pines and oaks slowly recovering. Dead burnt out trees leave an eerie reminder. Walking through the abandoned Trinidad Mine is an odd experience too but the heat radiating off the rocks was welcome. Following this last long hike before Kokoda my left foot was a little more sore than I would like but I think the vasaline that I will use on Kokoda will help that. All my equipment worked well and I feel ready to go. I'll probably do one or two last short hikes of a few hours and continue to ride daily, the long flight to Brisbane, Australia and then on to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea with force me to rest up before the start on the 9th.
