Cedar Ridge Preserve Hike
|
We took a short, shake out hike to test some of our gear on Super Bowl Sunday. The Cedar Ridge preserve is a small slice of true wilderness just minutes from downtown Dallas. This littleĀ gem of a park is managed by the fine folks at the Audubon society. While noted for its birds, particularly as a breeding habitat for the spectacular indigo and painted buntings, this is also the first place I have ever been that claimed residence for all four different types of America's venomous snakes. One expects Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, and perhaps even the ugly and vicious Water Moccasin, but the presence of the beautiful and deadly coral snake was a pleasant surprise. This little villain's neurotoxin is the most deadly of all the snake poisons in America, on par with the cobras of India. If only we'd been lucky enough to see one. We'll have to visit again during the summer months...
