The first 68 miles of our trip along the Appalachian Trail included bitter cold weather and a tremendous snowstorm, followed by lovely clear weather. Would have made for great skiing but, alas, the slopes were exceptionally steep and wooded. I would rate most at quadruple black diamond. Consistent with our recent skiing trips, Angela quickly went down with an injured knee. Unfortunately for her, however, she had no option but to keep on walking. Her impressive toughness caused some of her fellow hikers to christen her with the trailname "Sturdy".
