Mule Hollow is located just east of the Storm Mountain picnic area in Big Cottonwood Canyon. The trail starts out along a dry creek bed and climbs steadily for 1 1/2 miles to an abandoned mine. A short distance from the trailhead the creek suddenly appears and the trail follows it most of the way, crossing it several times. Then, just before the mine, the creek disappears. At the mine, the views are spectacular. To the north, the canyon rises to the top of Wildcat Ridge, and to the south is a great view of the Stairs Gulch. The complete round trip took me 2 1/2 hours, making it a great after work hike.
