To travel 7,000 miles across Africa in an Autogyro in 50 days
Charles Stewart has always had a passion to do Africa the Steve Irwin way so when his friend Jim Anderson begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting suggested that they combine their love of flying helicopters with a trip to Africa he jumped at the idea.
However, rather than just enjoy a holiday Charles and Jim decided that they would like to use the trip to raise awareness of what's happening in Africa and to raise funds to help those that are in need. With this in mind Charles approached his local Rotary Club for assistance.
Charles and Jim will be travelling in an ELO 07 Autogyro which will be equipped with special geo-positioning equipment allowing them to plot there progress on Google Maps as they go. They will also be able to upload and geo-tag the photos they take along the way allowing school children to follow their progress as they go.
In addition to stills cameras Charles and Jim will be taking, broadcast quality, video cameras with them. They are in discussions with a TV production company and a major international broadcaster with a view to making a documentary about their journey.
They also plan to visit as many Rotary Clubs as possible along their route to help publicise the many worthwhile projects being carried out by African Rotarians in partnership with Rotary Clubs from around the world.
Their chosen charity is African Community Outreach. Its costs ACO approx. £25 per year to put a child through school. If you would like to help please see our donations page for further details.
