My Adventure Story

Solo Canoe Trip from Ely Minnesota into Quetico.  frid July 28- Aug 9th was the plan.

Started in Moose Lake at the boat launch next to Terrel's Outfitter and  Cabins.  Paddled up to Prairie Portage and then on to Poachers Lake, Sunday Lake, Meadow Lake and into Agnas Lake the first day.  That is 3 big portages.  Feet were blistered due to poor quality socks and really rocky terrain and doing each portage 5 times.  Two full packs and a 16' fiberglass canoe.

Saturday paddled Agnas Lake - very calm, no wind, started early and finished in 6 hours and camped in Murdock Lake.   Sunday paddled to the first falls in the Falls Chain and camped with a little Misquitoe devouring bird.  Made her my pet!  Loved it.

Monday paddled 2/3 rds of the Fall's Chain and into McKewen Lake.  Tuesday  came through a number of small connecting lakes with very short portages and stopped in Rod Lake. Wed.  I got up early (on the water at 7:00 am) and paddled all the way through Louisa (heavy head wind), enjoyed Christy Falls - nice jacuzzi swim action,  over the two rocky portages through Sunday over the Singing Brook Portage to Burke Lake, a weird storm hit me here but lasted on 15 minutes, then on to Bailey's Bay to surf the tail wind and high waves back to Prairie Portage.  Back to the take out on Moose Lake,   a  2 hour paddle empty without a head wind, at the take out just before darkness settled in at 9:30 am.  One long day of paddleing and portaging but, absolutely loved the challenge, exercise and scenery.

Drove 3 hours that night and slept in a truck stop in the truck.  Then home the next day arriving about 7:00 pm.  It is a 14 hour drive door to door.
