My Adventure Story
FairWater Bike Challenge, “fastest human powered crossing of Africa”. New expedition of professional adventurer Ralph Tuijn (20 november 1971). The goal of this expedition is to cycle the African continent from north to south (12.000 kilometer) in a Guinness Book of Worldrecord time to draw attention to the issue of safe drinking water in Africa. Although millions dollars were spend in funding water projects, most people in Africa still don't have access to safe water!
FairWater rehabilitates handpumps, with a focus on deep groundwater zones, with the FairWater BluePump. This new Dutch handpump was especially developed for community watersupply in deep groundwater zones and is easy to maintain for a fraction of the cost compared with the traditional handpumps that water projects have been using so far.
