CA, OR, WA Trip 2010 Part 1
We headed east on Highway 50 to South Lake Tahoe then north on highway 89 to Truckee. Not wanting to travel on freeways we took surface streets to Prosser Dam RD and on to Dog Valley RD. Dog Valley RD passes Stampede Reservoir and cross the Stampede Reservoir Dam then it becomes Stampede Dam RD. From there we turned right on Henness Pass RD and left on Sunrise Creek RD this brought us back to Henness Pass RD. It seems that Henness Pass RD and Dog Valley RD are the same through the next part or at least it's not clear where the change names. We passed Crystal Peak and followed Dog Valley RD to where turns in to Long Valley RD and heads north along the CA NA border. From there we headed north on Highway 395 to State Route 36 north/west to State Route 44 north/west to State Route 89. About 10 miles north on 89 along Hat Creek we made camp for 2 nights.
We spent the whole day exploring Lassen Volcanic National Park.
Before heading north on State Route 89 we visited the Hat Creek Radio Observatory and took the self guided tour. We stopped at Burney Falls on 89 and then back tracked about 5 miles to State Route 299 north/east. In Bieber we cut through town to Punkin Center RD heading east. We were looking for Hayden Hill Ghost Town. We followed Punkin Center RD to Boyd Springs RD to Hayden Hill RD. Hayden Hill RD passes Hayden Hill Ghost Town which seems to be private property and closed to the public. We then took Hayden Hill RD to State Route 139 north to County Road 87/89. We turned north on Lookout Hackamore RD and back to 139 north. At the state line 139 turned into 39 and we stay on 39 to Klamath Falls where we stopped to clean the mud off the trailer. It was getting late so we camped at the KOA in town.
We took surface streets to State Route 140 north to Westside RD north. We turned on Sevenmile RD heading east and then north on Weed RD. Weed RD turned into State Route 62 and we turned east on Dixon RD. Next we turned north on Sun Mountain RD and took a side trip on Forest Road 2304 to see the Pinnacles. We stopped to add air to tires before we hit Highway 97 and the fuel pump quit working. After changing the fuel pump we headed north on 97 to State Route 58 north to Crescent Cutoff RD east. We headed north on Cascade Lake Highway to Soda Creek Forest Camp to spend the night.
We continued on the Cascade Lake Highway until it turned into SW Century Drive and took us to Highway 97 north. We took old Highway 97 to NE Hay Creek RD to the Richardson's Rock Ranch to collect some Thundereggs. We continued on Highway 97 when it crosses over to Washington and as we climbed a steep grade we could see the Stonehenge Memorial. We stopped at Toppenish to visit with some relatives for a couple of days.
10-07 to 08-2010
We continued on Highway 97 north to State Route 821 which followed the Yakima River and took us back to Highway 97. We turned northwest on Highway 2 and visited Leavenworth. Leavenworth is a small mountain town that built to look like a Bavarian town and was very crowed dew to October Fest. We continued on Highway 2 to Everett we parked the Jeep and to take the Victoria Clipper to BC. This concluded part 1 of our trip.
