CA, OR, WA Trip 2010 Part 1

10-02-2010

We headed east on Highway 50 to South Lake Tahoe then north on highway 89 to Truckee. Not wanting to travel on freeways we took surface streets to Prosser Dam RD and on to Dog Valley RD. Dog Valley RD passes Stampede Reservoir and cross the Stampede Reservoir Dam then it becomes Stampede Dam RD. From there we turned right on Henness Pass RD and left on Sunrise Creek RD this brought us back to Henness Pass RD. It seems that Henness Pass RD and Dog Valley RD are the same through the next part or at least it's not clear where the change names. We passed Crystal Peak and followed Dog Valley RD to where turns in to Long Valley RD and heads north along the CA NA border. From there we headed north on Highway 395 to State Route 36 north/west to State Route 44 north/west to State Route 89. About 10 miles north on 89 along Hat Creek we made camp for 2 nights.

We were looking for Hayden Hill Ghost Town. We followed Punkin Center RD to Boyd Springs RD to Hayden Hill RD. Hayden Hill RD passes Hayden Hill Ghost Town which seems to be private property and closed to the public. We then took Hayden Hill RD to State Route 139 north to County Road 87/89. We turned north on Lookout Hackamore RD and back to 139 north. At the state line 139 turned into 39 and we stay on 39 to Klamath Falls where we stopped to clean the mud off the trailer. It was getting late so we camped at the KOA in town.
