My Adventure Story

Okay there is WiFi at the hotel so I have no excuse not to post something. In my initial email I said I would try to do a recap of the days events. Today was day 1 for a trip to Sedona, AZ. Well we are going to make multiple stops in AZ not just Sedona, I do hope to capture some pictures of Sedona and the red rocks. Well on to day 1.

Today was basically "get to the place so we can ride day and see sights later day". So to sum up most of the ride up today the word "BORING" comes to mind. A lot of high mileage fast paced "SLAB" approximately 362mi from my start point. Did I tell you that I don't really like riding "SLAB", that is highway for you non-MC types. So myself and John P met at Ray B's and headed out. I am not sure how I was able to finagle my way into joining them on their trip but I did and so far I am glad I did. It was pretty spur of the moment, the only down side for me is not having my best riding buddy with me (Terri, that would be you just in case you didn't realize). Okay enough of the mushy stuff, hopefully I earned some points there!!

The exciting things for today. Starting around Hemet the wind decided to make an appearance and make itself known and felt. Sometimes the cross winds were very strong and unexpected. A couple of times I could see the bikes being pushed across the lane. Some non-panic adjustment, not to mention riding at a 65 degree angle for awhile, and the winds were almost tolerable. A few times we had some very strong gusts and some interesting effects off of the 18 wheelers. Everyone handled the wind well and we were, and are, all fine.

Exciting thing 2, one of us needed to make a comfort stop. the other 2 decided to explore a little while that was going on. The 2 bought some inexpensive not so good fruit from a stand and were coming back to their bikes when they noticed their companion starting to proceed on the ride. Quickly, they jumped on their bikes and headed off, and met up only to notice a few miles down the road that the rider in need of the comfort stop was no longer with them. I started thinking, I wonder if the 3 of us will get separated in a 2.5 mile area after having been on rides with dozens of riders and no separations. It almost happened. All three of us met up again near the initial comfort stop and then proceeded on. I was glad I didn't have to try to explain to someone how the three of us got separated.

Exciting thing 3, route 89 or 89A. Finally after way to much SLAB and straight line roads we had some twisties. I enjoyed the part before Prescott, AZ so much I almost wanted to go back and do it again, kinda like Angeles Crest Hwyf only not as long for you guys that were on that ride.

Finally we stopped at a hotel. Found a decent steak place. The best part of the trip so far the camaraderie. Ray and John thanks; I think we are all looking forward to tomorrow.

Okay Okay I hope to stop and take some pictures tomorrow.
