Motorcycle road trip with wife (Lyndy), brother (Phil) and his wife (Rae), and my sister (Lyndal) and her husband (Col) driving the back-up vehicle.
The goal was to ride as many of the great roads of New Zealand's south island that I'd heard so much about, and I wasn't disappointed.
It was a 'whirlwind' trip but we managed to pick up most of the best roads;
SH 60 - over Tekaka Hill,
SH 73 - Arthurs Pass,
SH 7 - Lewis Pass,
SH 75 - to Akaroa,
SH 6 - down the west coast,
and Queen Charlotte Drive near Picton.
We only had 11 days, due to time constraints, we had to substitute the scenic Highway 8 for the quicker Highway 1 (boring) truck route.
Other highlights included Segways at Kiakoura, Jetboating on the Shotover River, seeing the 'World's Fastest Indian' at Invercargill, walking up the world's 'Steepest Street' in Dunedin, soaking in hot springs at Hamner Springs and eating some great food.
Unfortunately the weather turned sour on us at Queenstown and we weren't able to fly to the glaciers or cruise on Milford Sound. But if we did them this trip, what would we do next trip??
