Dropped anchor on the east side of Normans Cay and took the dinghy over to snorkel on the partially submerged DC-3 airplane. This was on of the many aircraft of the drug king Carlos Ledeher. It crashed on take off in 1984 and is slowly rusting away.
Norman Cay was the headquarters of the biggest cocaine smuggling operation in the late 1970’s. Planes would fly in from Columbia and transfer the goods to smaller aircraft who would then fly under the radar and land in the south eastern U.S.
Not much here now…just a funky bar/restaurant (McDuff’s) and the old runway.
