My Adventure Story
Week 3 commenced with a visit to Natalie and Jeremy. They are wonderful hosts and it was really sad to leave. From Colorado Springs it was further East to the Wild West areas of Kit Carson and Dodge City. I had read the Kit Carson autobiography and was disappointed that the museum closed one day per week, yes the day I arrived! This was really worth a visit and it brought back early lifetime memories of playing cowboys and later watching it all (well mostly - according to the current US Marshall Charlie Mead) unfold in TV shows such as Gunsmoke with Marshall Matt Dillon. Dodge City had the famous Boot Hill cemetery, and the Santa Fe Railway. It was, and still is, a massive area for cattle distribution across the nation from many feed yards that must have held 1000/s of stock. Kansas is wide open and very strong winds buffeted the RV again each day.
Wildlife is not clearly visible as it was in the first week when I saw coyote, prairie dogs, many birds, chipmunks, squirrels, deer, elk, etc. as well as the large raccoon I run over!!
Eating was really great with several new foods experienced. I had Elk steak, whilst Jeremy had Rattlesnake with his Bison (?) and Natlie had Mountain Sheep, antelope, and ?? Sweets were the traditional Ice cream and Raspberry topping.
Thanks to Nat and Jeremy, I will remember the visit for ever!!
You will note that several night stops were at Walmart car parks, suitable when late night stops are the way to go, no hookup, and it is only for a few hours, and it is free!
