My Adventure Story

Today was incredible!  Although it was very foggy at 5:30 this morning, the fog had burned off by 7:30 when we left the motel.  We had breakfast at Dunkin Donuts and then stopped for a BBQ picture at Hillbilly’s Southern BBQ on our way out of town.

The sun was shining, the temperature was in the lower 70s and the roads got better once we crossed into Maine.  The scenery is outstanding.  Although we encountered a bit of traffic in the various towns, it was not bad at all, especially for the last Saturday in July.

As we went through Belfast John heard Lydia say “OH MY GOSH!  Perry’s Nut House!”  This was a place she stopped at many times with her family in the 60s.   We will probably stop there on the way to Camden next week.  She did not want to stop there today.

We are staying at the Bar Harbor Regency Holiday Inn which is on the water and has a lobster pound on site.  We were able to get early check in and once we unpacked we headed straight to the lobster pound.  Chowder and lobster roll for John, steamers and lobster roll for Lydia.  The chowder was good.  John was a bit disappointed with the lobster roll because it did not have celery in it and Lydia thoroughly enjoyed her steamer clams.  (A side note on lobster rolls for those of you outside of New England; celery or no celery is debated the same way Texans debate beans or no beans in chili.)

For Lydia this was perfection, lunch on a patio, listening to the waves lapping on the rocks, steamer clams and John’s company.  It absolutely does not get any better than this!
