My Adventure Story

Segment 7 of the Colorado Trail is the most difficult of all of the segments to this point. Steve Moody and myself, wanted to conqur Segment 7 because we failed to complete it a month before, because I got Altitude sickness. We started at 07:10 at the Gold Hill trail head, across the street from Tiger Run in Breckenridge. Weather was clear and sunny, but cold enough that we could see our breath. The inital climb on the trail was wet, but not muddy. The flowers were not as bright as a month before. At about mile 1.5 we had our first slight desent, for about half a mile, than we started up. Not having many switch backs that we have grown accustom to on the CT; the trail had many very steep climbs. Mile 8.5 ish reviled the summit, and we could see Breckenridge to the East, and Copper Mountian to the West. We could also see Georgia Pass, the highest pass of the CT to this point (segment 6). We had clear views of Gray's and Torres Peaks and I was able to reminess about climbing Grays Peak just two weeks ago. In the Distance to the North West was Mt. Holy Cross. When we were done admiring the views, we had to decend as storm clouds were brewing. The desent was rappid and difficult because of the steepness, but uneventful.
