My Adventure Story
Appalachian Trail - October 15 to October 22, 2011 - 65 miles - Hiking in VA, WV, MD, PA. Over this week long "section-hike" on the AT, I got "just a taste" of what it might be like for someone who does a "thru-hike" of the entire 2,180 miles between Springer Mountain, Georgia and Katahdin Mountain, Maine. It usually takes a thru-hiker 6 months to complete the entire journey. It was an awesome week and I'll never forget it. My brother Pat met up with me on Monday to continue the journey and it was great to have him along. We had some rough going but we did it. The rocky terrain and the weight of our packs made it more challenging. We had one rainy day, but that caused us to have one very exhausting day to get to shelter. Temps were generally around 40 at night and our gear performed pretty well. Check out my pictures and some of the notes I've added to them and zoom in on the map to see where they were taken. All in all, this was a successful adventure and I'm glad we did it. I'll be looking to get more sections in and perhaps one day be able to say I hiked it all.
