My Adventure Story
We left Maine on the Hinckley 40 heading south. Our plan was to go offshore as much as possible.
www.captainpete48.com We sailed directly to Cape Cod Canal and stopped for the evening. We were experienceing some overheating with the engine and we were concerned about this issue. The owner was with Patty and I and he determined that we could continue the trip as long as we continued to check the antifreeze and add more as needed. As usual the motor did not repair itself and in Rhode Island we replaced the water pump, impellar, and cleaned a lot of old pieces out of the hoses from a previous worn out impellar. We now had a cooler running engine. We also replaced all of the fuel filtersand the engine ran much stronger after this. Captain Patty did a great job on these repairs. We continued down Long Island Sound with some overnight stops to NYC. The weather outside of Long Island had waves of over 10' and winds from the SW. In NYC we had some fun and waited for a weather window and left for Norfolk. We had a nice sail on this leg. We were then forced down the ICW for about three days to Beufort, NC and eventually to Cape Fear, NC where we went offshore to Charleston, SC. We had a great trip, saw some bald eagles on the iCW, many dolphin, caught a few fish, and met some new friends. The owner learned a lot about boat handling and it was very rewarding to see his confidence grow daily. The combination of offshore, coastal, ICW was a great learning experience.
