Winter provides some of the best flying on the Central Coast and it was time to check out a dirt road that had been widened to look like a runway.
We took all the required precautions and had been looking at this place for 3 months, mapping out the approaches and when would be the best time to try it. It is a one way runway and thanks to our Contour video camera we now know the elevation and the slope on the runway.
I did a low pass prior to landing working out the best approach. This is a committed approach as the hills on the NW end of the runway rise to a very sudden 150 feet.
All went well other than the little tailwheel on the Champ doesn't do so well. Since this adventure NotSo and the Champ have new ABI3200 pneumatic tailwheels to raise the tails up a little more, keep the Champs belly out of the dirt and the tailwheel out of the ruts!
