My Adventure Story
What a great adventure. With the premier white water runs dropping fast in AR, we decided to do a fishing/camping trip in our rec boats.
While the ever popular Ponca to Kyle's landing run was on the medium low side of good, We've seen the splendor that it has to offer multiple times. We opted to go 25 miles downstream where the water was still moving quickly and offered an unseen stretch for us.
We camped at Ozark on friday night to get an early start on saturday.
We put on around 10am on Saturday morning and were immediately met by some small class II rapids..YAY!! Navigating a tandem canoe solo through these drops did a world of good for my paddling technique. Any attempts to fall back into bad paddling habits were met with burning arm muscles.
The scenery was incredible. The Buffalo is TRULY a national treasure.
We saw only a handful of paddlers on saturday but it's obvious that this run will be very crowded during the hight of the tourist season. We were amazed at how free of litter the run was.. We set out to pick up some trash but we found very little. I'm going to thank the Arkansas Canoe Club and whomever else has cleared the litter from this stream.
On Saturday night, we camped riverside.. Oh yes, towering bluffs all around, not a soul for miles.. It's heaven on earth.
Sunday, back out there!!!!! Tracy was ahead by a couple of bass from saturday.. I had to catch up! We floated down to Carver access to use the facilities (cheating, I know) We didn't see a soul between Carver and Mt Hersey. We took pictures, caught a couple of fish, ran some great little rapids and revived our souls!
I love ARKANSAS!!
