My Adventure Story
On March 24th 2012 Connor, Sierra, Hunter, and Kaity headed down to the Kenai for a much needed night away in the peaceful Dolly Varden Lake Cabin. It was a glorious day with the sun high in the sky and not another person to be found! They packed up their packs with good food, candy, and lots of wood and headed across the lake. On the way there, there may have been a couple good falls mostly due to poor packing and basic instability, but the ridiculous amount of snow made for excellent padding upon impact. After reaching the cabin they dropped the packs and went out exploring on the lake- blazing new trails and making a very poor attempt at large scale snow designs. The peace sign seemed rather straight forward but what came out was something that looked more like abstract art- sorry Connor. After adventuring around the lake and a spur of the moment attempt at 'downhill' skiing (okay, it was really only a small hill...) they headed back to the cabin for some food and Spades. The pasta came out great with some wood stove assistance and the Spades got pretty competitive. After Kaity and Sierra kicked some Spade butt it was time for a short trip outside to gaze at the awesomely clear skys and listen to the owls talk. The next day turned out to be equally glorious with sunshine so hot we had to strip layers mid-ski back. We started the morning with some fantastic breakfast burritos and bacon never smelled so good! Overall, Dolly Varden Lake Cabin- we will be back!
