My Adventure Story

Take a look at the map and the videos/photos captured along the way of our 40-mile adventure. NOTE: Zoom very far into the map (controls on the left side of the map), and click on the "Satellite" view.

Here is the brief story:   We started the run a day early because of a snow storm that was coming in. Since this was a game-time change of plans, we couldn't hit the trail until 9:15 AM (instead of our planned 3:00 AM start). The weather was perfect (overcast and relatively cool) and we felt great heading down the South Rim. On the way up the North side of the river, we started to feel the lack of sleep and altitude. We made it to about three miles from the North Rim when we realized that time and energy were not on our side. Also, the promised weather started rolling in. To be safe, we started the return journey without getting to the rim (we'll go back next year and finish the round trip). We made it back to the Colorado River around 6:00 PM. We had a 10-mile climb back up the South Rim, so we packed up, put on our lights and started the push. What took two hours to go down, took close to five hours to go up. We finished the journey just after 11:00 PM and we felt great (kind of).    Hope you enjoy the videos and photos we captured along the way.
