Today, April 29th was the first Annual Taildragger Fly-in at Aqua Dulce (L70) Airport. We took the long way to get there avoiding the overcast along the coast. Headwinds had us at 2 hours to get to L70. It also wasn't forecast to be windy and well they lied.
By the time we got to L70 it was very busy, but as we monitored 8 miles out, knew that by the time we got there, it shouldn't be so bad. Most of the planes had landed when we rolled into the pattern and it was gusty and once again had a springtime challenge on landing.
We had a great time, putting both planes on display. L70 puts on a great feed and had hamburgers, turkey burgers, chips, cookies and a drink for $5 and even had tri-tip with all the fixins for $8.
The wind died down around noon and switched directions and we decided it was time to head home about 2:30. As we left we, someone called the Champ and told me that we had won an award. We were already a few miles out and were told that they would mail it to us. Boy were we excited! Scott was a little miffed cuz he figured the Champ had won something in a very tough category, Antiques, Classic and Neo-classics were all in one category.
It took a month, but the awards, plural, did arrive. The Champ tied for bronze in his category and NotSo took Silver in the Contemporary category. Great way to start the fly-in season!
