My Adventure Story
This hike known as the Rim2Rim2Rim goes from the south rim of the canyon to the north rim, then back to the south rim. We left the Bright Angel trailhead to Indian Gardens, then took East Tonto to the South Kaibab trail. Once on the Kaibab trail, we took it to Phantom Ranch and all the way to the North Rim. On the return, we took Bright Angel trail from Phantom back to the south rim.
This strenuous, yet gorgeous hike traversed approx 25,000 feet of elevation change over our 29 hours, and 50 miles, of hiking... almost non-stop, if not for a brief siesta during our 2nd pass of Phantom Ranch around 2am of our 2nd day...
Every couple of hours it seemed we had new terrain and amazing scenery! To see first light while on East Tonto, the views from South Kaibab overlooking the Colorado River, the Bright Angel creek going through 'the box' and the radical drops as you work the trails towards the North Rim are all unforgettable!
