QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

How far should other GPS devices be from SPOT to prevent signal interference?

Other devices should be at least 12 inches from SPOT to prevent distortion of GPS coordinates and interference with message transmission.

How do I change my tracking interval?

SPOT Gen4's enhanced tracking services, Basic and Extreme Tracking, allow you to choose the rate of tracking that suits your adventures: 2.5 minutes (with Extreme Tracking only) 5 minutes 10 minutes 30 minutes 60 minutes To adjust the interval at which your SPOT Gen4 sends tracks, sign in to your SPOT account at FindMeSPOT.com. Go to the "My Devices Tab" and click on "view/edit" in the features column next to the device you would like to change. This will take you to the "Device Configuration Page." Expand the tracking section and choose the rate of tracking that you prefer. Your device will require an update/sync for the change to take effect.

What is Motion-Activated Tracking?

SPOT Gen4 tracking is smarter than ever! A built in vibration sensor sends tracks only when you are moving. When the device is stationary for more than five minutes SPOT Gen4 will enter Suspended Track mode. SPOT Gen4 will automatically send, at least, one more track from your resting location. While at rest, SPOT Gen4 will not send tracks. Tracking will automatically resume after the vibration sensor detects the unit has begun moving again. Motion-Activated tracking conserves battery life and reduces duplicated tracks.

How SPOT works?

SPOT products transmit short 1.5 second one-way messages on either 1611.25 MHz in North America and portions of Central America or on 1616.25 MHz throughout the rest of the world. These frequencies are just above the GPS L1 frequency (1575.42 MHz) used by many aircraft navigation systems. When the SPOT product transmits, there is the possibility of interference even though both the SPOT device and the aircraft navigation/communication systems meet all FCC regulatory requirements for interference .

Battery performance

To obtain reliable performance use only AAA Energizer Ultimate Lithium 8x batteries (L92). For optimal performance, please try to utilize SPOT in locations with a clear view of the sky with the logo side up. Extreme heat/cold and trying to send messages indoors or under extreme canopies can drain on battery life. If the On/Off indicator light blinks red this is a warning your battery is about to die. Always carry extra batteries with you. Test your SPOT device before each trip by sending a Check In message. Proper battery selection is critical for best performance.
